basic program to put movies together

Hello im looking for a well favored program for ubuntu that i can use to put the movies off my camera together....nothing fancy i just want to be able to cut out parts and merge videos together...i am a begineer and never messed with it in windows but i have some short clips i would like to combine.

ill second pitivi although both it and avidemux are in the repos so you can download and try both.
