I successfully installed ubuntu onto my mac (dual-boot) and everything was running smoothly until now. When I tried to switch users, the screen went black and it showed a blinking line in the top left hand of the screen. I forced shutdown my computer, then tried to boot back up, but when I clicked on linux (using reefit) it just showed tux and would not advance to boot into ubuntu. I have tried fixing the partition tables using reefit but that hasn't worked either.

the events you describe don't really sound connected...

If it is freezing on the tux graphic. Shutdown the Mac and start it up again (not reboot) and try again.

When I shut down my mac, it still could not boot into ubuntu using reefit, so I tried holding the option key at startup and that worked perfectly. After doing that, reefit began to work too. Thanks for your help :D
