I'm most worried about keyboard size and graphics. Is the keyboard a little small or can you type normally and super fast with it? And I'm a free lance photographer in my free time, and I end up processing a lot of pictures at once in GIMP.. I think one time I opened 40 pics in GIMP with my 4 year old acer, and it was a nightmare. Is the intel grpahics chip well suited for average/above average photo processing?

the keyboard is not really big but you get the hang of it after sometime when you say graphic you mean the display if so screen is very nice, you say you work with lots picture with gimp 40 wow we have the option for power if you need l got Core 2 Duo T6400 2.0 GHz 800 MHz FSB 2 MB L2 it should be ok
but one question our you going to use a external display also because the Gazelle is only 13" trying working with 40 picture at the same time you are going to run out of space

hmm. I don't mean like huuge like a 17" laptop keyboard, but more like a functional everyday laptop keyboard, and nothing like a netbook's keyboard.
I'm not really worried about viewing 40 pics on the 13.3" screen rather than working with a picture or two with 40 others loaded. Compiz productivity is very useful in organizing my windows and how I interact, so 40 pics is nothing.. but when I go and edit on my current laptop, it always lags when I apply filters, burn tool, etc. I'm guessing the new intel graphics chip will work, and if I have a 2.53 ghz core 2 duo processor, it'll be fine. 'cause the configuration I'm thinking about getting is with either the 2.4 ghz or 2.53 ghz

i was looking for reviews as well, and came up empty handed. based on the stuff i read about other peoples experiences with sys76,and spending considerable time looking at the all other options, i took the plunge and ordered a gazelle. i am happy to say, i made a good decision. i love mine so far. the keyboard is a little smaller, but i expected that with it being smaller portable notebook.i upgraded to 4 gig memory and it is nice and fast. i too am a freelance photographer and just shot a wedding today. i plan to try and use gimp for the first time to process all of my wedding photos. so far images look crisp and vibrant on the screen. i've only had it for 2 days so thats all i got for now, but i am a very content new gazelle owner.

i have never used gimp before, and have used photoshop for the past years. i am really into the philosophy of ubuntu and open source so i am quite happy to go gimp. from what i've read, they stack up pretty similar as far as basic photo editing (color adjustments, layers, tools, ect.) it seems to me that the only things photoshop has on gimp are a few advanced features like pict bridge, animation and video support. also i think gimp has no built in RAW support, though i think this can be added. i never shoot in RAW anyway, nor do i ever use the pictbridge or any animation. i do expect a short learning curve as far as layout, ect.
like i said, i don't have alot of hands on experience yet, but during this week i will be processing a couple hundred wedding photos with gimp, and i do use alot of creative editing. so afterwards i will be happy to report back with a first hand experience from a freelance photographer viewpoint.

From what my professional graphics design friends tell me, the biggest problem with the GIMP is color depth issues pertaining to producing graphics for print publications.

That would be fantastic! I love GIMP, it took a while for me to get used to the interface, but it can basically do a lot of what photoshop can, but it can be better. There's always Photoshop CS2 in wine, but I prefer GIMP, being the opensource guy that I am ;)
I'll be buying a laptop very soon for college, and I've been deeply looking into System76 for quite sometime. I would go for the Pangolin Performance with the nVidia gpu, but the laptop itself is just too big for my taste.
But as before, if it isn't too much of a hassle, it would be very appreciated if you put in your experience with editing your wedding pictures. :)
I've really been into HDR recently, and merging different exposure brackets in the program Qtpfsgui (absolute worst name ever) and using GIMP for a little more manipulation, but by God.. on my 4 year old laptop, it takes foreeeeeeeeever ;) So hopefully, it'll be a breeeeeze in this Gazelle
