As Dust and New Wave have been transferred to the default installation, the community themes package, which previously had these two themes, is going to be updated with new themes. This message was posted in the ubuntu-art mailing list by Kenneth Wimer:

Hi all,
As several have noticed, it is time to update the community themes package.
Naturally Dust and New Wave need to be replaced as they are now in the default
installation.
So the question is: what do you think should be included in the community
themes package?

Ken

What themes would you suggest for inclusion?

Well... Shiki-Colors (http://www.gnome-look.org/content/show.php/Shiki-Colors?content=86717), maybe?

As I remember, this theme wasn't presented in "community-themes" package :-k

At risk of having my head served back to me on a platter, I'm tempted to suggest... Any theme that "looks more like Windows".

There. I said it. And not because it's what I want for myself, but because I'm tired of all the wailing and gnashing of teeth about how if Ubuntu "looked more like Windows" how much easier it would be to instantly swing all those Windows users over to our side and that basically everyone who hates Ubuntu now, because the GUI is just soooo incomprehensible in comparison to the Windows GUI, would love it instead.

Okay, so yes there is a little sarcasm in there; so shoot me, but all joking aside, maybe it's something to think about.

A Windows theme perhaps isn't that far fetched, KDE does have that Redmond theme, though not sure if it's in KDE 4. And then there's the Mythbuntu theme.

I don't want to "shoot" you, but I have a question - what do you mean "like Windows"? Something like this (http://www.gnome-look.org/content/show.php/XP+2002?content=100380)?

I suppose. As I said, I don't want such a theme for my own use -- I don't even really understand the argument others make about this -- but in answer to your question, I'm going to say yes, I believe that's what is being asked for by those who DO support the argument: An XP-esque or Vista-esque sort of theme.

I can only conclude that the more it looks likes one, or the other, the better the idea will succeed.

I'd like to have that right NOW. Don't suppose it's available somewhere??

It would look great with the Buuf iconset (http://www.gnome-look.org/content/preview.php?preview=3&id=81153&file1=81153-1.png&file2=81153-2.png&file3=81153-3.png&name=Buuf).

I haven't noticed any links for download. But we can try to contact with the author of this theme through Launchpad (https://launchpad.net/~jonbuys76) or Email. I'm not sure that it's his Launchpad account, thought #-o

Shiki colors is nice, but I've actually been hoping for something darker than that. Dark Room took some getting used to, but I'm actually riding out the brown theme at the moment. Maybe I'd be better off learning to make them myself. :P

That's one of the Brave *-Colors themes (Murrine (http://gnome-look.org/content/show.php/Murrine-Colors?content=77661&PHPSESSID=e05483e0c326a7c49a215095fdde49e7), Nodoka (http://gnome-look.org/content/show.php/Nodoka-Colors?content=79993&PHPSESSID=e05483e0c326a7c49a215095fdde49e7), or Clearlooks (http://gnome-look.org/content/show.php/Clearlooks-Colors?content=75417&PHPSESSID=e05483e0c326a7c49a215095fdde49e7)). The metacity is the old X-Colors Lite that the themes used to come with. Since I'm not too sure where to find it on the net, I've attached it.

Personally I think shiki colors and gnome colors icons are very flat-although I suspect it's more that I don't like the particular color shades chosen (light and artificial I suppose)-and the folder icons are shaped too much like OS X icons. I know you can change the theme colors but then they don't match the icon colors.

That said, the theme's very complete and usable and definitely better than those that are shiny shiny, and has just as much claim to be included with ubuntu, even if it isn't as ubuntu-centric.

Gilouche is one of my unobtrusive favorites and sometimes I wish there were an ubuntu style version. It's pretty classic by this point and it would be nice to see it included with the gnome defaults-regardless of its close association with opensuse.

Darkilouche is a really modern and orange gilouche-based theme, though it has the same advantages/disadvantages of dark themes.

Like Shiki Colors but brownish and with dark brown border and toolbar like in Dust.
A really beautiful theme, and somewhat unknown.

Please try!

Here's my branch of Ubuntu-Testing-Themes in bazaar that contains original themes/modifications. Most are very usuable and feedback is always appreciated.

bzr branch lp:~dashua/murrine-themes/Ubuntu-Testing

All of these themes require murrine 0.90.2, which should now be in installed by default in Jaunty.

I attached a package for those not familiar with bazaar.

I approove the idea of a Windows-like theme. not for me, but for people who are afraid of Linux.

for exemple, I will install linux on my parent computer this summer. and it will have a windows-like theme. to not make them too disoriented.

Wow. These are fabulous - especially your murrine port of Dust (after switching to an integrated stepper and adding a GtkRange::trough-border). I hope these make it into a community-themes package - or a ppa at least.

a Windows-esque theme, Shiki-Colors with the Gnome-Colors icon theme & an ubuntuified gilouche theme/Darkilouche have got my vote as well.

Maybe include the Buuf icon theme? :)
How about an Aurora-based theme? (just make a Mac-esque theme really. :P haha)

QT apps have a bit of troubles with the menu color! Hope zgegblog will/can fix it.

Very nice theme, and comes with a cool partially transparent wallpaper and a palette color chooser.
I like the orange (human) version, but the blue (brave) version looks good as well.

The GDM, wallpaper and icons are really good (and I don't like brown on my desktop at all, although I like that Ubuntu is using it as a default color - at least it's different) but the GTK theme is nothing special, though it doesn't look THAT bad surrounded by the other good elements :)

So, they added Impression theme to "community-themes". I wonder, what themes will be included in future...
