I have taken the leap of faith, and scrapped MS completely in favour of Ubunntu. The only feature that I have not been able to "match" to my windows days is a program like the camera wizard. I have used the search feature, google and toyed with several additional programs. I take a large # of photos, and often will have several events on the same card. I need a program that will allow me to do several things without having to run 3 programs.
1. Once the camera is auto mounted, allow me to select which images I want to download.
2. Before downloading allow me to "batch" rename files, ie select 10 photos and call the batch "July party" allowing those images to be named "July party 1, ect"
3. Allow me to select the external hard drive I have mounted for video/media as a folder to download pictures to.
Hope this makes sense,

Digikam is pretty much suitable for what you ask. It is in the repositories.

It looks like your camera is new. I do not see the SD2000 in the list of Gphoto (what is used by digikam). But gphoto gets often releases so it should not take long until it is recognised. The SD card in it can for sure be read if you have a simple usb cardreader.

Sorry, it is a SD1000.
Other problems - Digikam recognises the camera on auto detect, but when I try to access the device, it fails to connect. My computer also has the port for the scan card, but when inserted, it is not recognised. Ubuntu also recognises the camera as soon as it is plugged in.

Is this a result of my camera not being supported by digikam? Either way, is there a different program that meets my inital needs?
Thanks all.

The SD1000 is supported. You are sure that you have added the camera (--> camera --> add camera) ?
