View Full Version : Jaunty GDM

Just look at screenshots: they are terrible.
The only thing I can see at my monitor when selecting menu entry is change of menu text color, I can see no difference in background.
This is the thing which suffer all dark themes. The only way? Of course, refuse from dark theme. Dark themes and usability have nothing common. I'm disappointed amateurs from ubuntu artwork team couldn't understand it although they have one very good example: their DarkRoom.

In my normal use, I never end up using any of those menus. May be that is why I did not notice this myself. But I must agree...

Black highlight on black menus is a bit of an oversight. It did used to be black text too though, so there's been an improvement! :P

I think the new gdm theme is still getting some fine tuning. I appreciate the fact that new and attractive artwork is included in Jaunty.

i liked it even though i typically dont like dark themes.
i like brown even less. I usually set up a blue gradient for my background.

The whole new gdm is a one big bug. The problem is black doesn't fit well with any other color: when there is almost one black/vary dark, large areas with different color looks ugly, eg highlited area. It's genetic problem and nobody can solve this issue. I'm dissapointed of the fact ubuntu designers haven't realised this simple fact after their failure with DarkRoom. It's a typical fool behaviour.

And don't call them amateurs in the bug report, please. It's quite a mean thing to do.
On that dark theme conspiracy theory, I doubt this has much to do with that. By giving this a dark background, the usplash theme (which has to have a black background since the screen resolution can't be guaranteed) simply transitions well into the GDM theme. Hopefully Plymouth and / or KMS type stuff will make that transition happen without the period of staring at a blank screen.
