I am very new to the Linux / command line thing. I am much more at home with a nice gui and clickable buttons. (os 10.5)

I am using a G5 dual 1.8 powermac with 2.5 gigs of ram.
nVidia 7800 graphics card and a 22 inch cinema display.

I first loaded Ubuntu 6.06, worked nicely except the monitor resolution was only 1024x768, but the install went smoothly.

Figured I would update to 8.10. Had to do a complete reinstall of 8.04 to get there. All the updates are installed and it is running.

The problem I am having, I searched for 2 days for fixes, the screen is multi-colored with flat colors. For instance, as I am writing this the white background of the website is blue. There is a pink boarder around the page. The bar at the bottom of the page is lime green.

I've been thru the Appearance and just about every other menu I can find with little to no results. I was able to change the text to a simple one so I can see text better now.

Any help would be wonderful and greatly appreciated.

Thanks

After more playing around, I think it is running in low graphics mode at 8 bit color.

Does anyone know a way to change it to full graphics? 24 bit color?
