I've just finished checking this forum as well as Amazon and info on other websites and decided the Logitech Z5 speakers are what I want. The sound is pretty poor on my Pangolin laptop (audio output-intel) but from what I've read, that is a fairly standard complaint everywhere on any laptop.

I did find some problems reported on the ubuntu forums with the Z5 speakers and Intrepid but seems like they (mostly) worked around them. I've saved that info for my use when I install. Z5 only supports Windows and MAC "on the record" but apparently Ubuntu can handle it to some extent - remote may cause some limitations.

Anyway, I wish someone would jump in here if they think I'm making a terrible mistake. Prize on Amazon is $66.00 so loss won't cause me to go bankrupt, I guess but still hate to throw money away.

Also, any recommendations of better USB powered speakers would be appreciated. I don't need a super deluxe surround sound but I do want the best sound I can get with USB (which has some power limits) and my system76 Pangolin laptop. I'm going to be mainly listening sitting at my desk or maybe in the same relatively small room but there is always a chance I might take them on the road.

Thanks in advance.
