View Full Version : [ubuntu] Installing Ubuntu on an iBook Clamshell (Tips, advice, guides?)

About a year ago I acquired a beautiful iBook Clamshell (tangerine flavor) and it came with OS X 10.3 installed on it. Long story short it crashed a few months later and with no discs it was a lost cause. I attempted to find some temporary copies of OS 9 to get it up and running but these discs were incomplete in one way or another and had errors during installing (the CD-ROM drive is in working order as I had some success in some ways but was never extremely happy with it) so I have decided to branch out into some freeware operating systems and this is my first choice. I personally love the look and feel of these systems, especially when it has the best price, FREE!

So this iBook has a completely wiped HD ready for a version of Ubuntu, my question is what is the most recent version of this OS that will run rather smooth and install to this computer with no issues. Also, can someone please supply me with the link to the exact ISO file I need to burn. Any other advice about things to do during installation will be helpful. Thanks a lot!

Other notes: I am a PC user and will be burning this CD through Windows Vista.

You will need a windows Vista DVD/CD burning program that burns .iso images (if you just copy to the disk - it will not work). I think Nero works - not sure - don't have Vista.
