I installed Ubuntu 8.10 on my Dell B110 and I have no clue how to get on the internet. My modem is Conexant d850 56k v.9x dfvc that come with my computer. I still use dialup because I have no other choice. Can someone please give me a step by step way of getting online with Ubuntu. I need a driver I think and how to even get connected to put my ISP info in because Ubuntu has nothing dialup related. Please help because I really like Ubuntu and I want to use it instead of Windows form now on

For most of us Linux newbs, you're better off to spend some money on an external hardware modem than trying to get those infernal winmodems to work.
Buy a US Robotics 5637 USB modem. It'll be detected at /dev/tty/ACM0. That's a zero at the end.
Or scrounge up an old USR serial external. You may know someone who has one of these in their closet.
Or find one of those Actiontec serial/USB modems that AOL was selling/giving away by the thousands.
Here's my old dial-up guide-er-diary...
