I recently got a Dell Mini 9 with Dell's version of Ubuntu installed. I'm planning to upgrade my ram from 512mb to 2gb but it seems that the Dell Ubuntu's kernel is limited to 1gb. I might go either the Full Intrepid Ibex install along with Netbook Remix packages over it OR I can go with the UNR image on the link below:

https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UNR

I'm quite aware of the missing codecs from a complete reinstall like this. Any idea which route I should go? the full intrepid install with netbook remix packages or the UNR image offered on the site.

If I go the full intrepid install route with netbook remix packages it'll probably take more disk space than the slimline UNR package. But seems the full install would be updated more regularly than the UNR image.

Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

Also another question that might be unrelated to this, Does the normal Hardy and Intrepid install detect that it's a netbook mini 9 and automatically install the LPIA packages by default?

I'm running regular Ubuntu 8.10 with th remix, and it works fine. Can't say about the UNR.

No, normal i386 Ubuntu wiil not use LPIA, it uses standard x86.

Seems there is a intrepid img on this page:
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/ports/releases/8.10/release/
for LPIA installs

For devices using the Low-Power Intel Architecture, including the A1xx and Atom processors.

There isn't any more information about this UNR image that is provided on https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UNR , its not even clear what version it is 8.10 or 8.04. Quite confused as there are many different ways to install ubuntu on the mini 9.

If the reason for this question is the 2GB RAM, don't bother.

Dell's Ubuntu now supports it (with latest updates).

The UNR image is Hardy (essentially the same as the Dell Mini Ubuntu, minus Yahoo, fluendo codecs and some KDE games / educational stuff): http://oem-images.canonical.com/unr/unr-1.0.1.README
