8.04 crashes often as a ESXi guest when paravirtualization is turned on

So...

My Ubuntu 8.04.2 installation runs just fine on ESXi when I have paravirtualization turned off.

Turn it on and the machine just hangs as soon as I start doing anything material on it (usually something CPU intensive).

Any ideas how to safely run Ubuntu Server with paravirtualization turned on??
