gnome-settings-daemon (2.25.92-0ubuntu5) jaunty; urgency=low

* debian/gnome-settings-daemon.gconf-defaults: use subpixel
rendering and slight hinting as the default in jaunty (even on CRT
monitors for now) (LP: #332172)

I think this is a good idea. Fonts always looked odd until the above settings applied. Now it's the default.

I guess not then LOL.

A wise move. With automatic DPI setting and subpixel rendering by default, people upgrading to Jaunty are going to be blown away by the fonts.
Now all we need is Liberation as the default font face...

Yes agreed, thats what I was thinking first impressions without any fiddling or posts in the ABT forum.

I prefer full hinting to slight hinting with my fonts but I have no strong opinion on the defaults. It's easy to change.
