Within the last few days my video has stopped working in Totem. Files will play, the status bar ticks along, and i can hear the audio but there is no video. Sometimes if I jump around on the status bar i can see flashes/stills but the video never streams. I can still watch streaming video in Firefox. Originally I thought it was the encoding type of my file so I downloaded VLC and can't get video there either, and realized that suddenly none of my videos are playing properly. I had to boot into windows to watch something yesterday! i have ubuntu Intrepid and one of the older ATI radeon video cards, but i have not ever had any problems with videos until the other day. It strikes me that its one of the updates i recently installed via update manager, but being sort of a linux noobie i don't know which one, how to undo it or fix it.

please let me know if there is more information i can provide to make helping me easier. many thanks.

cheers,
-helga

Problem seems to be fixed. Apparently I also tried to change my 'Visual effects' setting to 'normal'. I put it back to 'none' and the video came back. Any idea why the 2 won't play nice? Is it that i have an older ATI video card? can live w/o the desktop effects, but can't handle no video.

Cheers,
