Hello-
I'm new to Ubuntu (installed 8.10) and I'm not a techie or programmer. I can't get the sound to work and I'm wondering if there is a way to enable without entering programming code (e.g., sud ...). Thanks.

Here are some links that might help you.

for most of these sites you will need to use termanal. Which is in Applications --> Accessories. Good luck.

Of course none of this helped me I've had no sound for months and can't figure out why. I think if you have an intel hd sound card like me you might have trouble.

Thanks for these resources. I'll give it a try and see if I can figure it out and if I get lucky, I'll post solution.

Is that your MP3 files are not working or is that the sound is completely mute? If it is the former one try installing mediubunut synaptic package manager and the probem will be fixed!

For the later one may be you must install ALSA drivers to get your prblem fixed..

Thanks for responding. It's the latter - the sound is completely mute.
