Hi everybody.
When updating my Xubuntu's games, I found a small game called KQ, said to be similar to Final Fantasy 1 or 2. Installed it and began playing it. I surfed a while to see what I could learn about it and I found out that such game isn't yet "completed" :(:(:(
So now, I'm in search of 8-bit RPGs to satisfy my gaming craving. Which one do you know/reccomend? Open source if possible. Cross-platform would be even better!
(sorry if there's something like this, but I couldn't find anything useful in Google or this forum)

OOHH boy! There's a really good one out there called 'Cave Story' It has an amazing story line, awesome graphics, sweet weapons, overall is one of the best games I ever played (pretty long, and the bosses are hard) oh yea and it's 8-bit. And since KQ has pixel graphics, I'm guessing 8-bit is pixel graphics? Cave Story has pixel graphics. But dont get me wrong, it's fun

You mean strictly 8-bit console rpg's? Definitely Phantasy Star. Ultima 4. If you like action RPG's too Ys: The Vanished Omens is a must. Golvellius was a lot of fun.

Yeah, well, maybe I wasn't very descriptive, but you guys understood me
Yeah, I was talking about "retro" RPGs á la Final Fantasy.
@Wolfy: where can I find it? official reps? Terminal code?
@rumble, @psteph: Any good NES emulator?
I'll start looking for those. Thanks a lot guys!!

There's a SNES emulator called Zsnes in the official repo. Have lots of the games I own on there now. Now I don't have to worry about the battery messing up and my save getting erased :-P

You should find a game ROM and use it with an emulator. For NES, my best pick is FCE Ultra or Nestra. For SNES, like Azure.Rise, I recommend ZSNES. It does have some weird behavior, but it won't appear on commercial games, only on homebrews, so you shouldn't be bothered.
On thus, have fun!

Any good NES emulator?
Mednefen(in the repo) emulates NES, and a bunch of outer stuff.
