I always liked Galaga. A good version in the repositories is xgalaga.
sudo apt-get install xgalaga
You should also be able to find others by browsing the games section in synaptic or by searching for the title, like "space invaders". Mos tof the descriptions tend to mention what popular game it resembles.
Happy gaming!

If you use synaptic, and have all the repos installed, then there are loads..
Just go into the Games section
the ones off my head
Chromium BSU = good shoot em up
Planet Penguin Racer = the racing game with TUX
gl-117 = nice flight simulator
project starfighter = good old style game

Anything like "Space Invaders" .....with decent sound, to prove my Soundcard is working? (Audigy 2,= I recall)
I presume I can use the qwerty keyboard, at least until I buy something better.......
