I dual boot my desktop, I booted into Windows today (usually I just use my laptop which is Ubuntu solo) to be greeted by this window.

It's things like this that reaffirm my choice.

I opted to install Jaunty (replacing Interpid) on the desktop rather than play games.. go figure

That's just telling you it crashed for some reason last time you were in it. I get a read only file system if Ubuntu crashes for whatever reason (lately it's been due to a problem with lock ups from standby/hibernate) and I have to use fsck to get it to boot right. All OS' have problems like this at some point. Granted, Windows does seem to be a lot more prone to it, but still.

+1

And haven't for over two years. I tried to remember the last time Ubuntu crashed. Unfortunately, it's been so long that I can't even recall. Once setup and left alone the system just keeps running (energizer bunny).

Maybe I should write a rant in Testimonials complaining about the lack of failures. ;)

That's the best greeting ever.

Its better than the lovely shade of blue associated with the famous Windows Stop Error or 'Blue Screen of Death.' :)

As opposed to the white screen of death I used to sometimes get after installing the ATi drivers in Hardy :(

The thing I like is when there are problems in Ubuntu, I feel like bug reports about them, or posts in the forum will lead to a solution, more so than in Windows.

With Windows, it feels like sending a message to aliens in outer space - you don't know if anyone is listening to you, and you won't know when you get an answer back. Heck, they might put your bugfix in the next version and you'd have to spend money on it.

With Ubuntu Forums, and Launchpad, I feel like someone is reading my problems and working to solve them, and that it is of more benefit to others. When I ran a hardware test in an early 9.04 alpha, I mentioned that testing keyboard at the end of the test is somewhat silly when it might not work the entire session and the person can't give more info. Next thing you know, when I tested a later alpha, they moved the keyboard test near the beginning.

Someone was listening to me that time. :)

I know what it means, I thought it was funny that I haven't played any games on Windows in a while, instead have been screwing around in Linux on the desktop or lappy. Finally go to play some games and see an error message from Windows :P

I hate you now...

I love the BSOD, it's pretty, and it reminds me why I chose Linux.

OP: I love when that happens, I always just have to laugh.

I'd rather see that indicating that the system had a problem last time it was being used (Thats What it would be from and it's probably because of a poweroff instead of a proper shut down) then stupid xorg crashing out which happens to me at least once a month on any of my systems. Also you have crap like Daemon tools and that running at start-up why! it all adds up.

Every OS Crashes.

Every OS Crashes.

<BipBip>

Ubuntu is perfect.

More than likely, however, the error was during startup. A forced shutdown on Windows would disallow Ubuntu from mounting that partition, and since the OP didn't mention an issue with that I assume the OS was shut down properly.

That's a lie.

Ubuntu is perfect.

Ubuntu is by no means perfect. There are other distros which offer more than Ubuntu ever has, I've been using Linux for 8 years and I've used loads of different distros <snip>
