I have ubuntu and mac os x leopard. I can't login into my mac partition. The computer goes to the apple logo and then shut itself. I used the install disk and I try to repair disk, but no good I get repair disk failed. now I bought a 1tb external hard drive, so I can backup my mac data from ubuntu. What is the best way to do this? Is there any application that do this. Thanks

Can you please tell more about your hardware? It's a PPC or an Intel?
You can download the Ubuntu LiveCD and start from it pressing C
Open a Terminal and type
gksudo nautilus
You can then back up what you need.

Alternatively, if you have a second Mac, you can connect the two computer via FW and start the second (not working) Mac pressing T (target modus) at start up.

Something went really wrong. I reboot it ubuntu because every windown that opened it was blank. Now when I choose ubuntu, it send me to the terminal. I try gksudo nautilus and I try to get into the Macintosh HD, but when I do LS -a only . .. are on that partition. Is there anything that I can do now?
