Install Wine first:
http://www.winehq.org/download/deb

Then install Steam:

Then Counter Strike:

First there is sadly no native Steam Client for Linux. I have no idea why.

1) Go to Applications > Add/Remove Applications

2) Change the Show drop down menu to "All available applications" and then Search for "Wine"

3) Click the check box next to "Wine Windows Emulator" and then hit the "Apply Changes" button in the bottom right corner.

4) Next download the Steam Installer http://storefront.steampowered.com/download/SteamInstall.msi

5) I believe you just have to double click the installer and it will start the install.

You can check the How To on this page if double clicking doesn't work. http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=version&iId=1554

That's actually easy to explain: Steam doesn't sell native Linux games, so there is no need for a native Linux client.

Simondid, you cannot play Counter strike on linux. You can only create a CS server on linux. I'm also a fan of Counter Strike and I use windows XP only because of Counter Stike. I installed CS steam for linux from CSplanet.net i guess. You can get the exact address by googling the keyword "Counter Strike for linux". Do what they are telling you to do. And CS will be installed on linux but you can only run CS servers in the background. If some other person knows anything more about it then please do share. I asked a person owning a CS server on linux and he told me the same thing.

Syed Muhammad Shahbaz

You can run CS (the game) on Linux, but you need to use Wine, Cedega or CrossOver Games in order to do it (they are Windows software compatibility layers for Linux). See the link(s) in my post above for details on how to do it in Wine. I'm not sure why that person you talked to didn't know this, but running CS in Linux has been a very common practice for years now.
