View Full Version : [ubuntu] how do i get sound from my m-audio 2496

hi there i have a problem now i have installed ubuntu 8.10
and my card is showing in the volume controll and in sound but there is nothing comming out of it everytime i click on test it gives me some warning about something something 512 buffer because of this i had to go back to xp .I have looked online a lot about to resolve different ways but i just don't get it!!
it's a bit too technical for me .does anyone no a easyer solution.
If i have sound i would go back to ubuntu

I must admit this is a total shot in the dark ...

But I have heard that M-Audio cards don't like PCI latency to be too low. Have you tried adjusting that setting in your BIOS?

in bios?did not know i had to adjust anything there

I've used that M-Audio with Ubuntu Studio 8.04 and it worked fine. If I remember right, there was little hassle with ALSA or OSS, but after little tuning that worked.

Ubuntu Studio 8.04 has a low latency kernel by default and that's much better to recording stuff. Try that instead the normal Ubuntu.
