Hi everyone,
Has any one had any luck running Bakoma Tex in WINE or CodeWeaver?
I'm using Ubuntu 8.10 and CodeWeaver 7.1.0 Standard. I installed the trial version of BaKoMa TeX 8.41 into a XP bottle. The entire installation process went very well from beginning to end. I even got a pop up window saying "Installation successful. Good luck". After that I was left with sheer quietness, no icon on desktop, no Bakoma in application menu. That left me wondering what happened to the last 20 minutes of busy file copies and progresses. Is there suppose to be some dependency I should have primed the bottle with? Anyone got Bakoma TeX to work on their Linux system? Thanks. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Is there a particular reason you have to use that editor? There are numerous Linux native alternatives for LaTeX editing that would likely be far easier to deal with than trying to get an untested Windows app running on CX (http://www.codeweavers.com/compatibility/search?name=Bakoma&company=&medal=&date_start[1]=1&date_start[2]=1&date_start[0]=2000&date_start[3]=0&date_start[4]=00&date_end[1]=3&date_end[2]=7&date_end[0]=2009&date_end[3]=10&date_end[4]=09&search=app) or Wine (http://www.winehq.org/search?cx=partner-pub-0971840239976722%3Aw9sqbcsxtyf&cof=FORID%3A10&ie=UTF-8&q=Bakoma#204) (Kile, LaTeX plugin for Gedit, KDevelop, etc.).

Hi Cogadh
Thanks for your reply. I got Bakoma to work through WINE today. Turned out I had to manually go find Texword.exe and execute it that way. It runs smoothly now.
Previously I tried various Tex editors including Lyx, Kile, Texmacs, Texmaker, OOoLatex, Texworks and a few others. After a bit of trial and comparison I found Bakoma easiest to use.
Thanks again.

amylase - how exactly did you install bakoma in Wine? I have tried running the Bakoma quicksetup.exe installer in Wine from a terminal and I get the Bakoma install screen, a few flashing progress bars and then... nothing! No activity at all. I have tried waiting but there is no disk activity. No directories are created.
in response to cogadh: have a look at the Bakoma! It is awesome. It is a WYSWIG Latex editor and IMHO it make Latex usable. The Latex editors you mention are just not in the same league. The only downside is that it is commercial s/w but well worth the small price.
