I've had this problem since i first started using ubuntu over a year ago on multiple systems. If i setup my connection in wicd or network manager i'm unable to connect but if i manually configure my current connection via the /etc/network/interfaces file i connect with no problem whether its dhcp, static, encrypted or open, etc. This wouldn't be that bad if i only used one connection but this is unrealistic. Anyone have any suggestions?
Also, my current system is the aa1 using madwifi drivers as suggested here (https://help.ubuntu.com/community/AspireOne). I have to issue the command sudo /etc/network/interfaces restart after re3booting before i can connect. Anybody have an easy fix for any of this?
