i just bought an out-of-the-box compatible wireless pci card and everythin is working fine. it recognises the access point when i click on the network manager and shows a reasonable amount of power. the only thing is that when i connect, it keeps asking me for the wpa password and won't connect (or it will for a couple of minutes which i can access web pages if i'm super fast). but i would say that 95% of the time it just won't connect. any ideas anyone. i also consider myself fairly new to linux so...

thanks everyone for your input.

nevermind. i tweaked the antenna and it fixed itself. it's nice how easily things can be solved sometimes.
