So I recently fixed up on old laptop I had laying around the house and put Ubuntu on it.
The problem is that shes going slow and taking a long time to open programs. Ive been looking around at others like xubuntu but I'm not sure what would be the best choice to put on a PPC laptop. I really just need it to go on the internet, use office, and code and compile g++.
So to my question:
What is the best desktop for a slow G4 PPC laptop? ie kubuntu, xubuntu) and can I just uninstall ubuntu desktop (sudo apt-get remove ubuntu-desktop) and replace it with x , k , etc. but doing the same thing?

Thanks for your time and help!!!!

Usually the solution is ram. I find to run Ubuntu I need 512Mb and then it is fast enough to work with. On my G4 Ibook I installed a 1Gb stick for a total of 1.25Gb and it is more than enough. If you open top or better htop if you have it installed you will see your memory usage. You should not be using swap much or you will be slow.
