My compiz settings never seem to stick.. my hotkey for turning the cube and other stuff seems to get reset all the time. Even when I go to preferances and export my settings so I can import them back when it screws up again. Importing doesnt seem to do anything. Anyone know what's going on here?

bump

I just lost my compiz settings for about the 80th time, I was messing around with the gnome top panel then did a reboot.. came back and compiz was off... when I turned it back on it was reset to defaults.... again...

Also I notice that gnome ate one of the two hotkeys I had setup in system/preferences/keyboard shortcuts... It ate my "cntl ~" hotkey but the other one "alt ~" is still there... it's just random behavior... very very annoying

Anyone know why this happens? More importantly anyone how to backup 100% of your settings and hotkeys for compiz then restore it 100%? Preferably from the command line, the built-in profile/import/export is unreliable for me, it seems to only restore some things.

I also cannot import a profile.

After installing a fresh copy of Jaunty a few days ago, I had originally imported my Compiz profile (created on Ibex) fine. About an hour it ago the settings reset. I don't know why, but I was unable to re-import the very same profile. I noticed the "Animations Add-On" button was missing (e.g. burn and beam effects). If the Compiz profile you have is using any of these effects then I think it will cause the import to fail (no error message though).

To fix it, I followed the instructions here (http://ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php?p=7134598&postcount=14). Then I re-imported (using "Import", "Import As..." still doesn't work) the same profile, which applied everything but the animation effects. After a quick restart all the effects are working again. My effects seem to go wonky when I mess with the profile, too. Importing my profile exported while on Jaunty worked way back when I first installed, but after trying again yesterday when the settings messed up, it didn't work. I reset to defaults and logged out and back in again, and suddenly it was using my intended preferences again.
I have no idea what the problem is :?
