mysql password- database backup

I am attempting to migrate to a new hard drive, and need to know my mysql password so I can dump mythconverge. I am not sure what user name to use either. Is it the user name I log into xfce as, or just mythtv. Furthermore I need the mysql root password to restore- how do I get that?

found it. the password for user mythtv is in /home/<USER>/.mythtv/mysql.txt where user is the directory you usually run mythtv from.
