Macbook 2.1 Intel dual core 1gb ram, I have installed Ubuntu 8.11 and followed the instructions for changing the partition type to MSDOS.
On switching on the grey screen is there for ages and them I get an icon of a folder with a flashing question mark.
I have Ubuntu only installed and the only way to boot it is to hold the option key whilst switching on.
It then shows me an icon of a HDD which says Windows.
Is this the way it is supposed to boot or is there a problem with the install ? I would like to know how to make it boot automatically on switching on.
I cannot find my OS X dvd so I am stuffed if I cant get this to work.
Once booted it is fine.

Thanks
Mick

You need the Mac OSX DVD to set boot legacy, or another intel Mac with OSX bless function - MacBook as target , firewire connection. See the Intel Mac FAQ for the bless procedure to shorten the boot time. Would have been better to keep Mac OSX.
