I tried everything, for 3 days, spend too much time, madwifing wicding and wifi-radaring and I give up, so I'm buying a new card that would support WPA with just using network manager.
(It is not my router, I had Mandriva for a year and WPA was detected and used flawlessly).

I need someone to give me an advice on what card could I try that would work out of the box.

I have an Atheros card 802.11a/b/g, the thing that reads it is "Realtek", I don't know if that would affect getting a different card. Acer Aspire 3100.

Thanks for your time

This list is a little bit outdated, but you might sill want to take a look at it: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/WifiDocs/WirelessCardsSupported. I've had some good success with some Atheros cards.

Something really interesting happened. Y'all tell me if it could be possible.

So I still have WEP on, no WPA, BUT, as I installed and set up lokkit and ran ufw I now have 20% MORE of Internet speed than before!

WTH! Could it be that I blocked someone who was feeding on my connection?

My Edimax EW-7318USg (RT-73 based chipset) is working out of the box on Ubuntu Intrepid. At Hardy Heron, I manually compiled the driver. Working well.
