Recording Tapes

I'm trying to put my tapes into MP3 format:
1. Pacth cable attached from headphones on deck to input on sound card.
2. sounds great through speakers
3. Audacity only shows activity on left side.
5. When I play back my track, I hear nothing.

any ideas?


UPDATE: I discovered Audacity is recording in mono, how do I change that to stereo?

Well crap! I did my first tape and it sounded like the Chipmonks, how does one correct that?
