Was hoping to give new life to this machine any idea how well it would work? Last time I checked I had trouble getting anything apart form windows running on the thing.

Not sure why this system would cause issue. Onboard sound, lan and video worked as of 7.10.

Fedora the screen garbled up during the live run, and installed became imposisble :(, And with ubuntu it did something like that whilst loading the orange bar, Half the screen garbled up and it didnt seem to do anything after that.

The thing is I can run it on a old 350Mhz Pentium II with 64MB of ram, Quite slow but still installable and runs.

Sounds more like your CD or the drive may be having issues. If you can't boot to a known good live CD there's few places for the actual issue to be.

Got 8.10 to install quite nicely so all nice and dandy.
