Hi, I've used many Linux distributions for over a decade now, and Ubuntu on and off for many years now. Although I am very fond of Ubuntu, I find that out of all the distributions I've used (many, many) Ubuntu has the least desirable artwork. I think that default distribution artwork should be something as generally acceptable as possible. In colors alone the orange and brown combination is not very generally common, and therefore not what the common person likes. I think that (if not already done) a simple way to find a good middle ground for Ubuntu artwork would be asking forum users to vote on a few different styles/ color combinations... and go from there. Although superficial, artwork can be a very important factor for new users especially.

I have always felt the Ubuntu color scheme especially is just awful. A default look should be something people generally tolerate. Not how many people love or hate the look. I cannot tolerate the Ubuntu color scheme, and have read constantly users (no mater how long theyve been users) find the Ubuntu art disagreeable.

The art team should take a cue from what is most tolerated in all other segments of art, you don't often see people walking around sporting brown & orange clothing, or cars, or houses do you? Why would those people want to then see it on their computers.

It would seem that you are only a matter of months away from your dream operating system. Karmic Koala looks like getting some new looks ect, what's the betting on the forum being filled with people saying it is awful....... (whatever it looks like)

I like Ubuntu's brown color. It's quite usable and not really that ugly. It's not pretty either, but that's not my style.

I agree...I am still using Ubuntu Human Brown because I find it very..........Ubuntu.

HOWEVER, to attract new users, a better looking theme would help. Fedora and Linux Mint look stunning!!!

This is mute anyways, as howefield pointed out, Karmic Koala release 9.10 is heralding a new look for Ubuntu (about time!), from the mouth of Mark Shuttleworth himself!
