To allow shared email, and address book on a LAN, would setting up a Ubuntu mail server makes sense? We have several computers that connect via a router to a high speed internet and all email is recieved via POP3 from our ISP. Problem is: with a email client configured to recieve all incoming mail into an account, there is no way for others on the LAN to access or send email using that account with POP3(with the goal of having a centralized Inbox and shared address book). I'm not an IT expert so bear with me. Now, correct me if I'm wrong', but it seems setting up an IMAP server on our LAN would solve this. Except every HOW-TO for an IMAP or LAN mail server (http://flurdy.com/docs/postfix/#conf_imap) assumes a registered domain name as part of the setup. Is there a way for an IMAP server to recieve incoming mail from our ouremail@ourISPdotcom address and let our other LAN users sned and recieve email from the server without having to deploy a full domainname webmail web server?????

Some of this is elementary to many of you; but I'm way over my head here:
any help is appreciated.
