I have installed Ubuntu fom the Linux magazine CD on a second machine previously running Windows XP and it has operated well until yesterday, when the machine will not boot up. The hard disc was not partitioned.
The following messages are displayed:

Auto-detecting Pri Master -Not fetected
Auto-detectine Pri Slave -Not detected

Searching for Boot Record from CDROM - not found
Searching for Boot record from Floppy - not found
Searching for Boot Record from SCSI - not found

Boot failure
Reboot and select proper Boot device
or insert Boot Media in selected Boot device
Press any key when ready.

The mouse is not active and thed keyboard does not respond.
f anyone can help me to either resurrect the machine, or to uininstall Ubuntu I'd be most grateful

This looks like a failure of the Hard Disk.
