Ok, I need some help. I wanna install C&C generals, and I have both the disks, but the first one won't boot when I need the second one to go in because WINE is stopping it from doing it (I think, correct me if I'm wrong). Little help?

Follow the How-To here:
http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=version&iId=1717

Just some friendly advice: before you try installing anything in Wine, you really should check AppDB. Many times it will tell you what you may need to do to get the app installed and, more importantly, if the app is worth installing at all.

Ugh, I already checked that! But anyways, I know how to boot now, but when the installation is saying 'copying new files' it gives me a fatal error 1628 or something like that, not sure of the number.

Edit: oops, didn't see the HowTo at the bottom. I'll try that and see if it works
P.S. when the guide says to download msvcirt.dll to the system32 folder, did he mean msvcrt.dll?

If you are following that how-to, then how come you are still trying to install it off the disks? In order to get it to install, you need to copy the disk to your hard drive, the run the install from there, it won't work at all if you try to install it directly from the disks (don't ask me why, I don't know).

Wait, so I right click the disk icon, copy them to some folder, and install from there?

Pretty much, yes. Well, you should probably use the file browser to copy the contents of the disks to a directory on your hard drive. I believe if you use right-click/copy it will create a subdirectory with the name of the disk, when the goal is to get all the files on both disks into the same directory.

Ok, good, because when I copied the disc all I got was generals1.isi and generals2.isi

I did all the stuff, but now theres another problem. It started installing, went to 62% and asked for registration. I registrated, then it stayed at 62%, then it said it finished installation, so I was all happy :D But, it said launch the game, so I did, but it gave me an error saying 'unload the debugger and try again' what does that mean?

Nvm, did the no-cd crack thing and it PARTLY worked. Because the loading screen will come up, then say an error about having atleast Directx 8.1 or updating your video card. Isn't wine supposed to come with like Direct 9.0c?

You got me on that one, I have no idea why it is saying that. Wine does have its own implementation of DX 9.0c and you shouldn't need to install the real DX to run the game. Have you tried creating the options.ini file as described on the AppDB page? It may allow you to avoid the DX detection step.

I uninstalled for now, I think I'm going to get back to it later.

Hmm, the little directX thing error went away, but the C&C generals thing loads, then just stops at the blue screen (I'm using virtual desktop, and the background is blue) Help!
