I find Linux quite unusable for any work, so I mostly use GNU/Linux. Currently it's Ubuntu Warty (I'll probably dist-upgrade tonight). As for the web browser, I use Epiphany.

What work do you do? I'm a web developer and I find Ubuntu great! I also use it for accessing these forums.

Try looking at http://www.gnu.org/gnu/why-gnu-linux.html and http://www.gnu.org/gnu/linux-and-gnu.html to see what I mean :)

Yes, some nice things to remember.

BTW: I use Ubuntu to access this site - it's the only OS on my Acer laptop.

My home system is ONLY Ubuntu. No dual boot. Great OS. Runs fast, I can play all media on websites. Firefox and Evolution for the 'net. I can't do without desktop
switching.

I just built an Ubuntu box for work (actually two) and will move over to Ubuntu
on those. One goes to an employee to see how they like it.

It lacks nothing that I currently need. Locks up less than my win98 ex-box.

And I can play Enemy Territory on dsl.

Oh, and this community kicks butt! Fast and useful answers.

I also donated a small amount ($) as I see myself continuing to use
it and spread on all worthy boxes!

With the other topic (What Progs do you use) I now have everything
a useful pc needs.

thanks,
-DharmaOne

I've only got Ubuntu. Although I must admit that on a recent trip to Korea, I accessed the forums on a friend's computer running XP.
(Windows is still on my fiancee's laptop - but recent problems and an Ubuntu Live CD have almost got her convinced to switch.)

Yes Ubuntu and Epiphany to read this forum and everything else. I have dual boot Ubuntu & XP Pro SP2. I use XP to play my wargames only. TOAW COW, Squad Battles series, Panzer Campaign series. Try to run these games in GNU/Linux with wine and emulators but didn't work to good. Hopefully one day all these games will work in GNU/Linux.

Yes. Ubuntu is my main OS.

It was my only OS for about a month, but I broke down & reinstalled XP on a spare hd to play some games I couldn't get working in Cedega. Still not happy about that.

I use Windows or the Ubuntu Live CD at work to post, and at home I use Ubuntu (or when something's not working right) XP Pro.

I run Ubuntu exclusively. I refuse to allow windows in any form on my computer, I just despise it, the only proprietary operating system I would think about using is OSX. I have only used windows for a very short time (about two months) in my life. The rest of my computing experience was with Apple and now with Linux.

I'm a Linux man. No and, ifs or buts about it. And at the moment and for the foreseeable future, Ubuntu is my OS. As a matter of fact, Linux is the only OS I've had on my machine for several years. And it will stay that way.

WinXP with Firefox - because i feel Browsing under Windows is more smoothly.

Under Linux i allways have the feeling that Scrolling Sides and Handling is much more ... hmmm ..... **** .... don´t know the English Word for it. In German it is "ruckelig". ;)

huh, does it matter? - Websites works fine on any platfrom you know...

The only websites I've ever seen that works with only one platform and browser is windows update and trend micro's online virus scanner.

But, yeah I do use ubuntu only. Thinking about formatting to dual boot breezy/win98 when breezy is stable. Only cause win98 is the best alternative for games. Faster then win2k/xp and more gaming compatible then ubuntu.

Like others, I'm stuck using M$ at work and like to read up during my lunch time. ANY other time I use Linux (Ubuntu) exclusively.

there's gotta be a "both" answer, cuz eventhough I primarily conect to this forums using my Ubunt box, sometimes I access with an XP box at my work (when I don't have too much work to do; like now).

jimcooncat:Using firefox on Ubuntu through XDMCP over LAN through X-Deep/32 on a Win98SE machine. What a tangled web we weave....You mean you've actually got XDMCP working between Ubuntu and Windows?? Did you have to do anything special to do this? I have tried every X server I can find (Cygwin/X, X-Deep/32, Exceed . . .) and all give me the same result: I go through the Gnome login, but then am presented with a blank brown screen. A number of other people have had exactly the same problem. If you think you might be able to help, please check out one or more of these posts:
