I have looked for many ways for fixes but have found out tweaking settings is the best.

I have Steam running fine.

Counterstrike Source: Runs alright, very laggy and freezes and crashes at random.

Garry's Mod: Starts but turns directly into a Zombie State, worked before fine, but I added a map into the maps dir and now it will start, but will not load the main menu. Unplayable.

Hl2: Haven't tried it yet. So no need of help here yet.

Left 4 Dead: Extremely Laggy, Unplayable at the moment, Mouse doesn't work sometimes, I can't close out of a dialog in the main menu, at the moment it is unplayable.

All games have the start up options: -noredists -nomovies -windowed -width 1280 -height 1024

I am using the latest distro of Ubuntu.
I am using the latest WINE edition.

I have a Nvidia 6200 GE? I think.

I am using the 177 Recommended Driver for Nvidia.

I know when I used windows I had to revert to an older driver to play any game due to the newer drivers usually either auto closing the game when I tried to play or just restarting the computer all together.

I love my games, and I love Linux. Last time I used Ubuntu I had some sound problems, but now I don't. I ended up reverting back to windows because of the small problems I had with playing the Steam games. But yet again windows crapped out on me and I am back with Ubuntu.

Any suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated.

Well, I fixed my problem. I found the correct version of windows (for my OEM comp.) :P But yeah I fixed it before, but I don't remember how :( Sorry for no help... But I know alot of people out there are having problems with this and It was a previous problem (Solved) but that was a few ubuntu and WINE versions ago... Even the first time I fixed it I was having big problems with sound drivers working correctly, never really could use Teamspeak and CSS together... BIG PAIN, thats really the only reason why I don't use Ubuntu, is because of the Steam Games + Wine don't work too well together. You may be able to find another Windows Emulator (That cost money mind you) that would work excellent... There are a few out there specifically for games.

Good Luck.

(AND SOMEONE HELP THIS POOR MAN I KNOW HOW IT FEELS :( )

I use a product called crossover games (http://www.codeweavers.com/products/cxgames/) which plays CS:S and HL2 wonderfully. The only issue is that I occasionally have to login to steam on a friend's computer if i want to add a Steam Friend.
