Hi..

I was diligently following this tutorial
http://maketecheasier.com/turn-your-ubuntu-hardy-to-mac-osx-leopard/2008/07/23

on how to skin Ubuntu to look like Mac OSX Leopard.

I was about half way through it (where it talks about installing globalmenu) and I decided to take a break... this tutorial is long! Before taking the break, I figured I would reboot just to make sure what I had done so far would come back after a reboot.

Well, it didn't.. not only it didn't but I actually am staring at a black screen. I am not getting the top panel, menus, clock... The only things I see is aMSN and Skype because they open up when booting. I also see checkgmail notifications when emails arrive and I see the cursor which is still "macintosh style"...

How can I bring back the missing UI pieces ? At the very least, revert back to the default Ubuntu look and feel so I can start the tutorial over?

Any ideas?

Thanks

Chaotik

Where did you stop? To give solution i need to know how many steps you followed?

Could you please tell at which step you have stopped the installation and done reboot.
or just go to desktop - right click- change desktop background to default and try to install again. it will work fine.

When I right click, the submenu doesn't open.
I can move the cursor around and that's it.

I stopped where the tutorial says:

"Next, we are going to install globalmenu so as to display the menubar for each application."

I fact I tried this step but got some errors so it did not complete successfully. That's when I decided to reboot to see if maybe it would change anything.

This tut is for old version of Mac4Lin. The newest ver of Mac4Lin is 1.0RC1. You extract it and only run the Mac4Lin_Install_v1.0_RC.sh shell. That'all what you need to do. :D.

UbuntuNerd: when doing ALT-F2, nothing happens.
It's almost like it's frozen but it isn't because I can move aMSN around.

Frankly, it was a fresh install so I think I'll just re-install everything... probably faster then trying to get back on my feet.

Operan: sounds great.. I'll give it a try !
