Well I've been using kubuntu on my current desktop for some time now and have enjoyed it. A few quirks I'll admit but for the most part a very good experience. On my old media machine I used to use an older version of ubuntu that I enjoyed but have since given that machine away and haven't work with any of the newer versions of ubuntu. The reason I originally chose kubuntu over ubuntu on my desktop was that I couldn't get my wifi card to work for the life of me in ubuntu, but got it working in minutes when I loaded kubuntu to test it. I've just recently purchased a new laptop and want to dual boot this one as well. Now I'm trying to decide if I should do ubuntu or kubuntu, however I haven't had any recent experience with kubuntu. Which do you guys perfer? Please only post up if you have experience with both versions under 8.10. The laptop I'll be putting this on is a gateway FX gaming series laptop. With the p8400 processor, 4 gigs of ram, 300 gigs of HD space, and a Nvidia 9800M GTS video card.

How can your hardware work with KDE and not with Gnome, if you are running the same Ubuntu version and Linux kernel? Does Kubuntu has a different kernel than Ubuntu?

Don't know why it worked in one but not the other, but that's how it went down. Also when I tried both they where both in beta. So maybe it had something to do with it.
