Can anyone tell me a fairly cheap wireless card that will fit in my PCI card slot that will work with Ubuntu?

Then, can you also tell me what I have to do (if anything) to get Ubuntu to recognize it?

I'm very very new to Linux, as you can tell :)

P.S. My computer doesn't already have one, because I built this myself and never got a wireless card, ha (just mentioning this in case you try to answer with 'well most PCs already come with one built in' or something (i don't even know if that is true)).

I had a D-Link DWA-510 (http://www.dlink.com.au/Products.aspx?Sec=1&Sub1=11&Sub2=19&PID=338) installed in my computer. Worked without any problems.

Just install it, boot, Ubuntu will recognize it and it just works. All you have to do then is configure your wireless network settings (network id, password etc.).

Ah, thank you, but anything maybe a little cheaper? I only say that because it's $40 dollars PLUS s&h to the U.S., so I can only assume it's gonna be expensive...

Not sure how reliable the list is but there's some information here (https://help.ubuntu.com/community/WifiDocs/WirelessCardsSupported)

Or find one that is within your price range and then do a search for it on google (eg "blablawireless card ubuntu support" or something like that). Results will give you an indication if there are major problems with it.

I put a $30 card (the cheapest in the computer store) in the kids box and it worked with no issues.

You are probably not going a card for much cheaper than that.

Any local computer shop, or Staples/BestBuy will have one.
