Using Ubuntu 8.10 with both VLC and Movie Player. Both play .avi files with no problems. But if instead I insert a known good commercial DVD into my player it will play the video for about 1 minute before the player freezes up. Then the eject button no loger responds and to shut the player down I either have to kill the process or click multiple times on the close window button and I then get a popup window saying the player isn't responding and would I like to kill it.
Most interestingly is after a freeze if I try to restart VLC I get:
*******************************************
Playback failure:
DVDRead could not open the disk "/dev/scd0".
Your input can't be opened:
VLC is unable to open the MRL 'dvd:///dev/scd0'. Check the log for details.
*******************************************
Sure appreciate any ideas as to what to pursue!
