Hi,
I have been using Ubuntu 804 for some 6-8 months on an eeepc900 and been using it extensively and really not having any big issues, apart from some minor networking problems etc.
As late as yesterday night I was using it for hours and now today when I need to start working with it again (and yes, I do use external monitor:) the pointing devices behave very strangly.
If I try to use the mouse pad it jumps around all by itself. Like if I move the pointer slowly and then stops still holding the finger to the surface, the pointer jumps around and seemingly clicking and double clicking too.
When I attach my USB mini mouse that has always worked perfectly it works ok for a few minutes in the 2 right hand side USB ports..! and then it stops and the LED goes out.
After a restart it seems the mouse works a little longer in the left hand side USB port but it has stopped working a few times there too.
The mouse pad still does not "work" at all.
I have also tried Fedora10 Live from USB, both from the left USB and one of the 2 to the right and the Fedora install seems to work from any port (so I guess the USB ports themselves are ok?) BUT also in Fedora does the mouse pad behave strangely.
Driver issue? HW failing?
Can anybody help me with any ideas!??
After some additional testing the follow seem to apply:
. the 2 right hand side USB ports only work with the mouse for soem 10 seconds
. the left hand side USB port works better and have failed only twice in 30 min
. the mouse pad seem unusable right now, even if I only very carefullt tries to move the pointer it marks all text, jumps around etc...
I also have a Win XP disk image for this laptop and maybe I'll try to load that one to see if this appears to be Linux-driver related somehow. But naturally I have a hard time understanding why it would work 100% for 6-8 months and then suddenly starts to malfunction...
Any ideas very welcome...
TIA
