I want to make a simple shared folder available to anyone on my windows network/domain.

I've installed 8.10, samba and a gui. Tutorials tell me to share a folder by rt. clicking it and selecting 'sharing'. I don't see that option.

Do I have to do it in the configuration file? How?

thanks

You're probably better of downloading either the package swat or look into using webmin to administer your server. swat will allow you to manage your samba config. webmin is more for administering your entire server. Those tools will help you immensely in creating usable shares for your network. Good luck!

PS - dont use both, unless you know what your doing. One or the other.

Hmmm. Ok, i certainly don't know what I'm doing.

I just copy/pasted some line at the command line that installed samba and some gui. I got it from one of these server threads that turned into a flamewar about gui/no gui. I don't know what one. How do i find out if I have swat or webmin or both installed?
