HI!
I this is one of the first time I have installed linux on my computer! (Yay ME!!)
I was hoping that i could start a server. But the catch is i have almost NO linux experince.

What do i need to set up a server? I was hoping i could make it sorta like cpanel or maybe you could point me out a free script?

Thanks LINUX!

What kind of server do you want to start? An html server? A filesharing server? A print server?

There is a great HOWTO for setting up an ISP-Server. It tells you how to se up a web server with database and php capability, a DNS server, a mail server, etc. You can skim through it and read only the parts that you want to install (for example, you might not need a DNS server.)

http://www.howtoforge.com/perfect_setup_ubuntu_5.10

Please read that. Since you already have Ubuntu installed, you can start on page 2.

All versions of Debian are free. debian.org would be a good start.

You COULD consider Debian, however, since you are new to the Linux scene, I think it would be wiser to start with Ubuntu. (Debian doesn't hold your hand as much during and after the installation. This is an exact reading from the very technical hold-your-hand (tm) benchmark. :-P)
