Gunz is one of those games that uses GameGuard protection.
In the current state of WINE GameGuard games will NEVER work on Linux.

We get way too many questions about GameGuard protected games like this. I'm thinking we need a sticky that explains what GameGuard is, why it doesn't work in Wine and a list of all those games that use it.

If anyone gets bored and writes one up I will personally stick it upon being notified of its existence. ^_^
I just personally don't have the time right now.

Possibly; "ever" leaves a lot of room for speculation, you know. ;)
However, I don't think WINE is going to support Windows device drivers any time soon, so emulation is the only real choice you have. Further, only VMWare seems to support DirectX, which many Windows games need, so although you can run DirectX in WINE (I've tested this), if your game requires both that and GameGuard, you have to use VMWare.
Check the stickies over in the Virtualization forum for some guides on that; there's also a short one in the Ubuntu help docs.
