I've got a relatively new install of Ubuntu Eee 8.04 on a 904ha and I've never heard my system beep. I'd actually LIKE it to beep since I want my mail client to tell me when I've got mail (and no, I can't use the wav function for reasons that are available in a different thread).
So, how do I test my system beep? What might be wrong?
ps - system beep IS enabled in the preferences > Sounds
