new video card

hello ...
i have been running feisty fawn for a while now and got a great deal on a new video card ...
the current video card i am running is evga 7600gt 256 mb

i just got a deal on the evga 9500gt 1gb card ... i would like to know a good walk thru/howto to get the cards switched (for the drivers)
i know that ff 7.04 has met the end of life on here but i have everything working like i want it

both cards are nvidia chip sets and the same manufacture

i know i will be making a full back up b4 i attempt this hardware switch
any and all help where i do not have to switch distros would be a very big help and greatly appreciated

Hi and with that new 9500 I believe you will need the new nvidia driver but I think you will run into dependency issues. You may just install the new card and if you have any issue just reconfigure you xorg.

ok ... but is there a howto for nvidia drivers ...
and will be be out of luck because if the end of life issue
for the dependencies ?

ok new card installed ....
and it reverted to a vesa driver and i have no resolution over
1024x768 (my monitor supports 1650x1280)

if i get the new nvidia driver . what kind od dependancy issues will i run into if any ..
and would i have to upgrade the distro ?
i think i have tried 8.04 and it was quirky ...
have not tried 8.10 ...

any info would be a great help

i am running a 9600gt on 8.10 with the nvidia 180.29 driver with 1920x1200 resolution and am very happy with this. i suspect the easy way for you to run the driver is to upgrade distros. there is a lot happening in multimedia right now, i would suggest 9.04 when it comes out and i will be upgrading also.

I'd appreciate finding out if you got the 9500 up and running, as I have also spotted it on sale, and am considering it. Does it work with 8.10? Thanks in advance.
