I have a Lenovo T500 dual-booting Ubuntu 8.10 and Vista Business 32.
When I got the laptop in early January it only had Vista installed. After a few hours of usage, the sound stopped working. It wouldn't play from speakers or headphone jack. I installed Ubuntu shortly after (had been planning to anyway) and the sound worked perfectly while I was in Ubuntu. I called Lenovo and they had no idea what was happening. A few days later, the sound started working in Vista and I was happy.
Unfortunately, the problem seems to have resurfaced. A few days ago I was working with MATLAB in Ubuntu and happened to start messing with sound. It was very temperamental. I had to close my media player for it to play sound. It complained about not being able to access something or other. The next day (after a cold restart), the sound (speakers and headphone jack) stopped working completely in both Vista and Ubuntu, which leads me to believe that it is a problem with hardware.
Ideas?
