I'd like to apologize for this already. I know how many of these threads exist, not in this forum alone but all over the place.

I've searched and read for hours before I decided to post. I really don't know what else to do.

Information:
I have Ubuntu 64-bit 8.10.

I'm using the most current version of wine and ventrilo 3.0.1

I use the front port on my tower to connect my mic to the computer. It is NOT a USB mic. I'm not sure what the alternative is called. My friends and I have been calling it "the plug".

My mic works. I have tested it on gnome sound recorder and skype. It is perfectly clear and working well.

My problem: I can hear people talking on ventrilo just fine. (the server log on message plays, followed by odd speaker clicks/pops. This is tolerable.) I can't, however, get my mic to work.

I've tried several configurations using ALSA and OSS under Wine to start Vent.

Once in vent: I press setup to change the settings etc. Then I go to test my mic. Under the voice tab, when I hit the monitor button to test my input I can see the numbers changing with the volume of my voice as I talk into the mic. When I go to test I get no playback and no keyclicks when I press my push to talk button.

I've tried everything that I've found from searching forum posts and can't seem to figure out a solution.

Once I get this working (Later coupled with the push to talk script while Vent is not in focus. This takes priority though.) I'll really be done with Windows. This is the one little annoyance I have not been able to solve.

I read the sticky at the top that read something to the air of "what do you need before you can leave windows?" which I thought was ironic because this RIGHT HERE is what it's going to take for me...

I'd appreciate any thoughts, suggestions or feedback. I'm really stumped and not sure what else to try.

Mine only works when Vent or WoW is in focus... can I make it work when like, my net browser is open? I just assumed it had to be a Wine application in focus for it to work...

As far as I know it's possible to have it working without focus, it just takes a little coaxing.

There are 3 programs there they've created for when wine is not in focus, near the top.

I haven't tried it yet myself because really since I have no output I can't test it and attempt it haha.
