Do they get along? And is it a pleasant experience from a user point of view? /Adam

I must say I've disabled them so far, though I'm also running the development edition (Jaunty) of things. Also, I haven't tried to optimize anything so far on it. To me it all feels sluggish, so I'm trying to give a stable Gnome edition a spin later today, to get a feeling for a sensible baseline to compare performance on. Don't know if I should drop all the way to Xfce to get something decent.

I really feel at home in KDE, so if someone know some tips/tricks to get it to run quicker it is greatly appreciated.

I don't think you'll really gain much by doing it.

If you use Jaunty you could try the metacity compositor if you just need compositing for something.

Actually, so far it feels more smooth. Though this is still limited testing. Don't know if I can make a more scientific approach and measure ie. window repaint times after switching desktop.

Thanks. Sounds like it'll be good enough for me. I will be running 9.04 alpha/beta.

I don't think I can resist a machine this small much longer! :D
